Information About

North Sydney, New South Wales

North Sydney is a Suburb and commercial district in the Local Government Area of North Sydney Council on the North Shore of Sydney , in the state of New South Wales , Australia .

It is located about three kilometers north of the Sydney Central Business District , to which it is directly linked by road and rail across the Sydney Harbour Bridge . The commercial district of North Sydney includes the second largest concentration of office buildings in New South Wales , with a large representation from the Advertising and Information Technology industries.

Unlike other major suburban hubs within the Sydney metropolitan area, North Sydney has very limited shopping facilities, although there is currently redevelopment of a Shopping World complex along Berry Street. The only other main shopping complex, is the Greenwood Shopping Centre which is connected to North Sydney Station . Despite being a busy area, there has been an exodus of businesses that have moved their offices to other areas such as North Ryde and Chatswood as the local rents are high.

Local schools include the government selective North Sydney Boys and North Sydney Girls High Schools, the Catholic Marist College North Shore, and the private Monte Sant' Angelo and Wenona schools. St Aloysius' College of Milson's Point and Loreto Kirribilli are also within the confines of the North Sydney Local Government Area . Post-secondary education providers include the Australian Catholic University and Billy Blue Schools . Prominent places of worship in the suburb include St Mary's Catholic Church (Miller Sreet) and St Thomas' Anglican Church (cnr McLaren and Church Streets).

The North Sydney local government area includes the suburb of North Sydney and the surrounding suburbs of Crows Nest , Wollstonecraft , Waverton , Neutral Bay , McMahons Point , Kirribilli , Cremorne , and Cammeray . North Sydney Council is proclaimed to have one of the lowest council rates in Australia, which no doubt is due to the strong business presence in the area. The current ( 2004 ) Prime Minister Of Australia chooses to live in Kirribilli House , which is within the North Sydney area.
