Information About

North East Tonight

''North East Tonight'' is the flagship news programme from Tyne Tees Television . Broadcast each weekday at 6pm on ITV1 , the programme is usually presented by the veteran anchorman, Mike Neville . Produced from Television House in Gateshead , the programme covers news stories from across the North East and North Yorkshire in the UK. Newsrooms are also based in Sunderland , York , Billingham and London . Separate editions are broadcast for the North ( Pontop Pike transmitter) and the South of the region ( Bilsdale Transmitter ).

Presenters include Kim Inglis, Pam Royle, Jonathan Morrell, Kenny Toal and Claire Montgomary. Senior reporters include Luke Casey, Andy Cluz and Political Editor, Gerry Folley. Sports reports from Ian Payne, Dawn Thewlis and Simon O'Rouke. Weather from another North East institution, Bob Johnson .

During Summer 2005, Mike Neville was rushed to hospital following a blood clot. This has meant a prolonged absence from screen and has ended a run of over 40 years almost continuous broadcasting by the anchorman. It is hoped Mike will return to local TV screens in 2006.

HISTORY

''North East Tonight'' was first broadcast in 1996 following the defection of the popular Mike Neville to Tyne Tees from the BBC's '' Look North '' programme after 30 years. Previous Tyne Tees news programmes include ''Roundabout'', ''Northern Life'' and ''Tyne Tees Today''.
