''No Depression'' is the title of an album released 1990 by the Alt-country band Uncle Tupelo . This album is generally cited as starting the alt-country movement and is often used as a description for the genre. It is also the title of a Magazine that covers the alt-country music scene. In the late 1990s , the magazine sponsored an annual ''No Depression Tour'' including several alt-country artists, although this failed in its intent to bring them wider radio airplay.
