''NewsCenter'' ('''''NotiCentro''''' in Spanish ) is the name given to a number of local-news operations at American Television Stations .

The name was first used in 1967 by WAPA-TV in San Juan , Puerto Rico as ''NotiCentro'', and later in 1972 on ABC affiliate WCVB in Boston when it began operations. The name later spread to several NBC Owned-and-operated Stations , which then encouraged other affiliates to use the title.

Similar titles were also used on newscasts in other countries. Brazil 's SBT used ''Noticentro'' (a Portuguese derivation of ''NewsCenter'') for its local newscasts from 1981 to 1988 . In Australia , the name ''News Centre'' was used by the Nine Network in the 1970s (as ''News Centre Nine''), and by BTV-6 in Ballarat , now a part of WIN Television , in the 1980s (as ''News Centre Six''). In Canada , the ''NewsCentre'' title was used by Vancouver 's CBUT-TV in the 1980s, and by Saskatoon 's CFQC-TV in the 1990s.
