Information About

New Jersey State Highway 138

New Jersey State Highway 138 is state highway in New Jersey . It is an eastern extension of Interstate 195 (See Interstate 95 ) towards Belmar, New Jersey . Its western terminus is at New Jersey State Highway 34 and Interstate 195 in Wall Township, New Jersey ; its eastern terminus is at New Jersey State Highway 35 in Wall. It was first built as part of New Jersey State Highway 38 in 1941 and renumbered "138" in 1989 when it became clear that the gap between two sections of Route 38 would not be filled. Although Interstate 195 ends at Route 34 , Route 138 carries another exit for it (Exit 36). The traffic lights on Route 138 often cause congestion during peak hours because of Route 18's premature ending, and it is also meant to be an evacuation route in case of a disaster. The length of the highway is 3.5 miles.
