Route 51, the "'''Exeter-Hampton Expressway'''," Prior to 1994, NH 51 was a Two-lane Freeway from the Route 101 Exit 11 ( Exeter / Stratham - Jct. Route 108 ) to Route 1A in Hampton Beach . In the fall of 1994, the end of NH 101 was shifted eight miles south of Portsmouth, replacing NH 51's Super 2 between the Hampton Tolls and Hampton Beach. NH 101 now begins in Hampton Beach, and is a Super 2 expressway to Manchester, connecting with I-293. NH 101 continues as a rural highway, with a small expressway section in Amherst. NH 101 ends in Downtown Keene at the junctions of NH 9, 10, and 12. Old NH 101 between Newfields and downtown Portsmouth became Route 33 , and NH 51 was eliminated. |
