New Hampshire Route 28




New Hampshire Route 28 is a north–south highway in southeastern New Hampshire . It connects the town of Ossipee in east-central New Hampshire with Salem on the Massachusetts border.

The southern terminus of Route 28 is on the Massachusetts state line in Salem. The road connects with MA 28 in the town of Methuen . The northern terminus is at the junction with Route 16 (The White Mountain Road) in Ossipee. Total length of Route 28 is approximately 85.2 miles (137.2 km).

ROUTE 28 BYPASS


In Derry , south of Manchester , Bypass 28 spurs off of Route 28. Route 28 runs through central Manchester, while Bypass 28 runs along the eastern side of Manchester. The two routes join again in Hooksett , north of Manchester. The local name of Bypass 28 is Londonderry Turnpike. The length of the bypass is approximately 12.8 miles (20.7 km).


ROUTE 28A

There are two noncontiguous segments of Route 28A.


Southern segment

The southern segment of Route 28A, locally named Mammoth Road , connects Londonderry and Hooksett , running through the eastern side of Manchester . The southern terminus is at the junction with Route 28 in Londonderry. The northern terminus is at the junction with Route 28/ US-3 in Hooksett. Total length of this segment of Route 28A is approximately 7.6 miles (12.2 km).


Northern segment

The northern segment of Route 28A is a loop road in the town of Alton . It splits off from Route 28, runs north along the shore of Alton Bay—an arm of Lake Winnipesaukee —then rejoins Route 28. For about one-third of its length it is merged with Route 11 . The section of Route 28A directly along the lake shore is locally named Lake Shore Road. Total length of this segment of Route 28A is approximately 5.5 miles (8.9 km).
