The National Assembly of Lesotho is the Lower Chamber of the country's Bicameral Parliament . The current National Assembly, formed following elections held on 25 May 2002 , has a total of 120 members. 80 members are elected in single member Constituencies using the simple majority (or First-past-the-post ) system. The remaining 40 members are elected through Proportional Representation and national party-lists. Members serve five-year terms. Fourteen women occupy seats in the National Assembly. Ntlhoi Motsamai is the current Speaker of the National Assembly. PREVIOUS NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ELECTION RESULTS Notes # In the pre-independence 1965 election, the Basotho National Party was known as the Basutoland National Party and the Basotho Congress Party was known as the Basutoland Congress Party. # The results of the 1970 election were annulled soon after they were announced.
