It was founded under the leadership of Ajitesh Bandyopadhyay in 1960 . At the end of the 1970-ties Rudraprasad Sengupta became the leader. With Sengupta a new era started, Nandikar turned from a pure performance oriented theatre group to an organisation with a wide range of projects, including an annual national theatre festival. Among the groups prominent actresses and actors you find Swatilekha Sengupta, who starred in Satyajit Ray 's movie Ghare-Baire (The Home and the World) from 1984 and Roland Joffé's "City of Joy" ( 1992 ), Goutam Halder, Debshankar Halder and Sohini Sengupta Halder, who acted in Rituparna Sengupta's movie Paromitar Ek Din ( 2000 ). Rudraprasad Sengupta is also a prominent actor. Besides acting in Nandikar productions, he has also played in e.g. Bernardo Bertolucci's " Little Buddha " ( 1993 ). |
