GEOGRAPHY Murray is located at 40°39'9" North, 111°53'36" West (40.652397, -111.893229). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 24.9 Km&2 (9.6 Mi&2 ). 24.9 km&2 (9.6 mi&2) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water. SCHOOL DISTRICT The Murray City School District was created on January 1, 1906 . It was created because a proclamation issued on July 1, 1905 designated Murray as "second class", meaning that it could then provide for its own education. The Murray City School District provides a means for kids from kindergarten to twelfth grade to attend a public school. The district is governed by five members of the Board of Education. Murray School District has eleven schools: seven elementaries (Grant, Horizon, Liberty, Longview, McMillian, Parkside, and Viewmont), two junior highs, (Riverview and Hillcrest), one high school (Murray), and an alternative high school (Creekside). DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 34,024 people, 12,673 households, and 8,719 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 1,367.0/km&2 (3,542.3/mi&2). There were 13,327 housing units at an average density of 535.4/km&2 (1,387.5/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 91.56% White , 0.99% African American , 0.63% Native American , 1.83% Asian , 0.33% Pacific Islander , 2.77% from Other Races , and 1.89% from two or more races. 7.49% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 12,673 households out of which 34.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.3% were Married Couples living together, 11.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% were non-families. 24.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.24. In the city the population was spread out with 27.2% under the age of 18, 13.3% from 18 to 24, 28.6% from 25 to 44, 19.5% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 95.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.8 males. The median income for a household in the city was $45,569, and the median income for a family was $51,482. Males had a median income of $35,636 versus $25,713 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $21,094. 6.3% of the population and 5.5% of families were below the Poverty Line . 7.4% of those under the age of 18 and 4.3% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
