Mudra Institute of Communications Ahmedabad (MICA) is the leading marketing communications institute in India. Established in 1991 and based in Ahmedabad , India the institute offers a two year Post Graduate Programme in Communications Management (PGPCM). Apart from this flagship course, the institute also offers many specialised short-term courses. Communications research is a major thrust area for the institute in recent years.


PGPCM

The PGPCM course was launched in 1994 with the first batch passing out in 1996. The admission to the two-year post graduate programme is a 4 stage process. Following the Common Admission Test (CAT) administered by the IIMs , the institute itself administers the MICA Entrance Test (MET), followed by group discussions and personal interviews. On an average, a class constitutes between 70-80 students. The course curriculum consitutes all essential management subjects in the first year. In the second year, students specialise in account management, brand management, marketing research, media management and public relations/event management.

During the course, the students are also expected to complete an eight to ten week summer internship and a two week rural study programme. The last trimester constitutes a thesis project that is every student's contribution to original research. Students of the programme have been successfully placed in a variety of advertising, market research and media agencies apart from sales and marketing companies. The package differs according to the field of specialisation and the nature of the comapany.

Semiotics Research Centre

The Semiotics Research Centre intends to provide insights into the meanings and context of language, cultures, consumer behaviour, and the meanings and logic of symbols, graphics and logos, and its impact on Marketing Communications.


MICA Rural Market Ratings (MRMR)

The primary objective of the MICA Rural Market Ratings exercise is to derive a single value for the district, which can reflect the market potential of the rural sector, for that district, as close to reality as possible. MRMR is a comprehensive guide, which is designed to serve the needs of economists, researchers, marketing executives, advertisers and media planners.

MICA Communications Review is a refereed international journal of the institute. The Review promotes inquiry into contemporary communication issues within the wider social, economic and technological contexts, and provides a forum for discussion of theoretical and practical insights emerging from it


STUDENT SOCIETIES

MICA has many active socities that serve the varied interests its students. MICANVAS is the annual festival of the college. The theatre society is the most popular society. It holds an annual play in Ahmedabad city. Evam , a Chennai based theatre company, is the result of some ex-students making a career out of theatre.
