Incorporated in 1927 , it is essentially a large Neighborhood , and is designated a Wildlife Refuge . There is no Zoning for commercial or Business uses, though a Historic house has been Renovate d and may eventually be used for a Restaurant , if city leaders decide to create such a zoning within the city. It is bordered on three sides by Roswell , and the west by an Unincorporated area of Cherokee County . (While the U.S. Census Bureau claims part of the city is in Cherokee, no local maps indicate this is actually true.) It is not related to the much more recent Census Area of Mountain Park in Gwinnett County , about 25 Mile s or 40 Kilometer s east. Lake Garrett is within the city, and downstream to the northwest Lake Cherful straddles the county line (possibly causing the confusion over the exact city limit). Two Swan s, named Romeo And Juliet , were introduced to the Lake s around 2000 to scare off Canada Geese , and have since become the city's unofficial Mascot s. Both lakes are gradually being destroyed by Silt ation, caused by Development upstream in Roswell. The city has notified those developers of its intent to Sue to have the damage repaired. GEOGRAPHY Mountain Park is located at 34°4'58" North, 84°24'49" West (34.082672, -84.413641). According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 1.4 Km&2 (0.5 Mi&2 ). 1.2 km&2 (0.5 mi&2) of it is land and 0.2 km&2 (0.1 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 12.96% water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 506 people, 228 households, and 134 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 415.7/km&2 (1,082.2/mi&2). There were 248 housing units at an average density of 203.7/km&2 (530.4/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.26% White , 1.58% Black or African American , 0.40% Native American , 0.40% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.40% from Other Races , and 1.98% from two or more races. 1.38% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 228 households out of which 29.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.9% were Married Couples living together, 8.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.8% were non-families. 29.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.22 and the average family size was 2.80. In the city the population was spread out with 20.0% under the age of 18, 4.0% from 18 to 24, 33.0% from 25 to 44, 34.6% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.7 males. The median income for a household in the city was $55,875, and the median income for a family was $61,875. Males had a median income of $42,500 versus $35,769 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $31,085. 3.8% of the population and 2.6% of families were below the Poverty Line . 3.0% of those under the age of 18 and 4.2% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
