Mount Buller




Mount Buller is a ski resort in Victoria 220 km from Melbourne . Mount Buller is popular with skiers due to its close location to Melbourne.

Currently, Mount Buller has 25 Chairlift s / T-bar s spread over the resort. There are:
  • 3 High-speed Quad Lifts

  • 6 Quad lifts

  • 4 Triple Lifts

  • 1 Double lift

  • 5 T-Bars

  • Bourke Street Carpet for beginners

  • Bluff View Rope Tow for beginners


Run difficulties: 25% Green (Beginner), 45% Blue (Intermediate) and 30% Black Diamond (Expert)


WEATHER

Alpine locations in Australia like Mt Buller can have some of the harshest and most rapidly changing conditions. Although it isn't as harsh as the European or American mountain weather, it is sometimes hazardous. Fog is one of the common hazards that occurs at Mount Buller, visibility can be reduced to 5 metres or worse. Other than fog, other weather extremes don’t occur very frequently during the daylight hours (like blizzards or strong winds), mostly during the night. In general, weather may be mild on Mount Buller most of the time, but can change rapidly (even in 1 minute) from clear fine day to a foggy, blizzards and windy day.


DINING OUT

Other than skiing, Mount Buller has an excellent night life with many Pubs , Restaurants and Bistro s to dine at. Food quality is good, comparable to many existing eating places in Melbourne. Black Cockatoo at the Chalet Hotel is one fine example. Dining at Mount Buller, however can be expensive since most of the restaurants are only open during the snow season.

Other shopping on the mountain can be very expensive due to lack of commercial competition, so shopping in Mansfield is a popular option.


GETTING THERE


Car

Most common access to Mount Buller is by car using highways like the Hume Highway , Goulburn Valley Highway and Melba Highway . As is the case with most such resorts, the final stretch of road can be treacherous due to ice and wind in poor conditions. Cars are required to carry Wheel Chains during the official snow season.


Public Transport

There are also some bus services to Mount Buller. V/Line is the main operator while MMBL is the secondary operator. Most buses leave from Southern Cross Station and travel along the Maroondah Highway through the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and Yarra Ranges , stopping at Mansfield. Local buses connect Mansfield to Mount Buller, however reservations are required for this route.
