Montoursville is a borough located in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania , in the United States . As of the 2000 Census , the borough had a total population of 4,777.


GEOGRAPHY

Montoursville is located at 41°15'10" North, 76°54'56" West (41.252729, -76.915507).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the borough has a total area of 10.8 Km&2 (4.2 Mi&2 ). 10.5 km&2 (4.0 mi&2) of it is land and 0.3 km&2 (0.1 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 3.12% water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census of 2000, there were 4,777 people, 2,067 households, and 1,393 families residing in the borough. The Population Density was 456.5/km&2 (1,181.0/mi&2). There were 2,169 housing units at an average density of 207.3/km&2 (536.3/mi&2). The racial makeup of the borough was 99.02% White , 0.10% African American , 0.06% Native American , 0.33% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.06% from Other Races , and 0.42% from two or more races. 0.42% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 2,067 households out of which 28.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.6% were Married Couples living together, 10.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.6% were non-families. 29.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.84.

In the borough the population was spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 26.1% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 22.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 90.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.4 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $37,484, and the median income for a family was $44,583. Males had a median income of $33,750 versus $24,449 for females. The Per Capita Income for the borough was $19,648. 4.2% of the population and 2.4% of families were below the Poverty Line . 2.4% of those under the age of 18 and 5.1% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
