Information AboutMons Star |
|
Kaiser Wilhelm's 'Order of the Day' on August 19 1914 was for "my soldiers to exterminate first the treacherous English; walk over General French's contemptible little Army." After the BEF withstood the German assaults in the opening battles of the war, holders of the Mons Star became commonly and proudly known as Old Contemptibles. The last surviving holder of a Mons Star was Alfred Anderson who died on November 21 2005 . EXTERNAL LINKS |
