Monaro Highway




The Monaro Highway is a State Highway in New South Wales , the Australian Capital Territory and Victoria , Australia . The Victorian section was formerly unsealed and called the Cann Valley Highway . Upon sealing, it became an extension of the Monaro Highway.

The Monaro highway traverses the Monaro region, hence the name. It starts at Canberra and runs south past Michelago and Bredbo to Cooma . It continues to Bombala and beyond crossing the Victorian border until it meets Princes Highway at the town of Cann River . The Monaro highway is roughly 200 kilometres long and forms part of the main road route from Sydney to the Snowy Mountains . It is also an important freight route between Victoria's Gippsland region and Canberra.
