Menomonie is a city in western Wisconsin . It is the County Seat of Dunn County, Wisconsin . As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 14,937. The city is located partially within the Town Of Menomonie .

Together with surrounding communities, the Menomonie Metropolitan Area to the east, forms the Census Bureau's Eau Claire-Menomonie Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area .

The City Center is located at the south end of Lake Menomin , a Reservoir on the Red Cedar River .

Menomonie is the home of the University Of Wisconsin-Stout .


GEOGRAPHY

Menomonie is located at 44°52'45" North, 91°55'5" West (44.879336, -91.918333).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 37.8 Km&2 (14.6 Mi&2 ). 33.3 km&2 (12.9 mi&2) of it is land and 4.5 km&2 (1.7 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 11.91% water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census of 2000, there were 14,937 people, 5,119 households, and 2,370 families residing in the city. The Population Density was 448.1/km&2 (1,160.7/mi&2). There were 5,441 housing units at an average density of 163.2/km&2 (422.8/mi&2). The racial makeup of the city was 93.79% White , 0.76% Black or African American , 0.41% Native American , 3.21% Asian , 0.01% Pacific Islander , 0.64% from Other Races , and 1.18% from two or more races. 1.14% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 5,119 households out of which 22.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.0% were Married Couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 53.7% were non-families. 32.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.95.

In the city the population was spread out with 15.5% under the age of 18, 40.4% from 18 to 24, 20.5% from 25 to 44, 12.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 23 years. For every 100 females there were 99.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $31,103, and the median income for a family was $44,458. Males had a median income of $30,893 versus $21,898 for females. The Per Capita Income for the city was $15,994. 23.5% of the population and 9.1% of families were below the Poverty Line . 16.7% of those under the age of 18 and 7.3% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
