Information AboutMedical Investigation |
''Medical Investigation'' was an American medical-drama Television Series that began September 1 , 2004 , on NBC . It ran for twenty hour-long episodes before being cancelled in 2005 . The USA Network began running reruns on January 6 , 2005 , in what is called a "repurposed" broadcast. It is, however, no different from the original broadcasts. High definition reruns of the show are being broadcast on the Universal HD channel. The series featured the cases of an elite team of medical experts of the National Institutes Of Health (NIH) who, unlike in real life, investigate serious Public-health problems, such as sudden outbreaks of serious Diseases . Medical investigative duties are normally the responsibility of the Centers For Disease Control And Prevention (CDC) and local health departments, while the NIH is primarily a disease-research and -theory organization. This lack of attention to the real world is thought to have contributed to the show's demise, though plenty of shows suspend reality for their premises (for instance, on Law & Order, every case goes to trial, which is a vast distortion of reality). However, the main contributing factor to the show's cancellation is thought to be its competition with House MD , which aired in the same Friday at 10 p.m. ET time slot and had a similar premise, but held audience attention more effectively due to character development. The series exists in the same Television Universe as '' Third Watch '' and, by extension '' ER ''. A special two-part crossover event aired on February 18 , 2005 , establishing the television-universe connection by featuring the ''Third Watch'' and ''Medical Investigation'' teams working together.
