The Medical University of Ohio is a medical school located in Toledo, Ohio . It was founded in 1964, and the first medical students began their studies there in 1969. The components of the Medical University of Ohio are the College of Medicine, the College of Nursing, College of Health Sciences, and the College of Graduate Studies. The Medical University of Ohio campus consists of three hospitals with a combined capacity of 320 beds -- the University Medical Center, MUO Rehabilitation Hospital, and the Kobacker Center, a child and adolescent psychiatric hospital. Each year, the college enrolls approximately 2,000 students, with 500 in the School of Medicine, 500 graduate students, and 1,000 undergraduate nursing students. On March 31, 2006, Governor Bob Taft signed House Bill 478, which will merge the University Of Toledo with the Medical University of Ohio. The merger is effective July 1, 2006. The institution will retain the University of Toledo name and will become the third largest public university in Ohio in terms of operating budget, as well as one of 17 public universities in the country that has colleges of business, education, engineering, law, medicine and pharmacy.
