McMahon Stadium ( Pronounced ) is a Canadian Football Stadium located in Calgary, Alberta . The stadium was constructed over a 100-day period in 1960 on the University Of Calgary campus and has since served as the home venue for the University of Calgary Dinos, Calgary Colts of the Prairie Football Conference and the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL , who formerly played at Mewata Stadium from 1935 to 1959. It also is home to the AFL's Calgary Gators. With permanent seating totalling 38,000, McMahon Stadium is the fifth-largest stadium in Canada. The CFL Grey Cup game has been held at McMahon Stadium three times: in 1975, 1993, and 2000. McMahon Stadium was also used for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1988 Winter Olympics , which required major expansion of its seating area. The stadium will feature a new artificial FieldTurf field in 2006. The new turf is hoped to attract a wider variety of events to the stadium including future international soccer matches. SEE ALSO |
