A former member of the National Front , Wingfield, along with Ian Anderson , represented the traditionalist Flag Group wing in opposition to the Political Soldier wing. He joined the NF in 1976 , won election to the National Directorate in 1980 and became editor of the ''National Front News'' for a time, beginning in 1983 .. He would briefly go on to serve as a member of the National Democrats , editing ''The Flag'' for both them and the Flag Group before them. In his role as editor of NF party organs Wingfield was charged under the Race Realtions Act in 1985 and, after refusing to pay a fine, was imprisoned Frustrated by the lack of progress of the ND, Wingfield and his family emigrated to France in 1995 . He returned to Britain in 1999 and has since joined the British National Party and currently serves as editor of the party newspaper ''Freedom''. He was second on the list of candidates for the North-West in the 2004 European Elections , behind only Nick Griffin . |
