Ricciuto was born in Waikerie , South Australia . After some success in local leagues, he was recruited by SANFL team West Adelaide and soon after, was recruited by the Adelaide Crows as a rookie. He debuted in the AFL in 1993 . Ricciuto quickly rose to prominence in the national competition. He was an AFL Rising Star nominee in 1993 and achieved All-Australian selection in 1994 , 1997 , 1998 , 2000 , 2002 , 2003 and 2005 (as team captain) and was in the Adelaide Crows 1998 premiership team and 2003 Wizard Cup winning team. He was appointed as Adelaide captain in 2001 . In 2003 , he won the league's highest honor, the Brownlow Medal , along with Collingwood 's Nathan Buckley and Sydney 's Adam Goodes . Ricciuto is noted for his Italian heritage, and bears a large tattoo of his family name on his back. EXTERNAL LINKS |
