Marika Kilius (born March 24 1943 in Frankfurt/Main , Hesse , Germany ) as a daughter of a hairdresser she became one of the most successful and most famous German figure skaters. Marikia Kilius began figure skating as a single skater but changed very early to pair skating. Her first skating partner was Franz Ningel . They came in 4th position at the Olympics in 1956 and in 1957 they were silver medallist at the Worlds in pair skating. Still 1957 she changed her skating partner and teamed up with Hans-Jürgen Bäumler . Between 1958 and 1964 they won four times the German nationals and became six times European champion and twice World champion in pair skating. Their coach was Erich Zeller . At the Olympic Winter Games 1960 and 1964 they won the silver medal. They were stripped of the 1964 silver medal in 1966. They were alleged to have signed a professional skating contract prior to the 1964 Olympic Games. They were rehabilitated in 1987 by the IOC, the original result stood and they got their silver medals back again. In 1959 Marika Kilius was voted the German female athlete of the year in Germany. In 1964 she married the son of a factory owner from Frankfurt/Main, Werner Zahn. Also her second marriage got divorced.
