'Mansfield University of Pennsylvania' is one of the fourteen state universities that are part of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. (PASSHE). We are accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and numerous national professional organizations. Mansfield combines the best qualities of a small liberal arts college with the resources of a comprehensive university. With 3,390 students and 180 professors, We also offer all of what's usually found at much larger universities: an impressive faculty of teacher-scholars, a wide range of courses and majors, career focused experiences, high tech equipment, and the latest facilities. Our campus is located in a scenic, mountainous region of North Central Pennsylvania, an area noted for its quality of life, safety, and numerous recreational opportunities. As a Mansfield student, you'll have virtually unlimited access to everyone and everything that's here. HISTORY Mansfield University traces its heritage back to 1857, when Mansfield Classical Seminary opened. In 1862, Mansfield became a state normal school. In 1927, it became Mansfield State Teachers College, and in 1960, it broadened its degree offerings and became Mansfield State College. In 1983, it became Mansfield University. Historic North Hall, an elegant six-story 19th century structure that has been completely restored, houses Mansfield 's state-of-the-art library. Mansfield continues its mission to improvement and stay abreast of technological advancements. Nearly every classroom is a technology-equipped smart classroom for student learning. We have open computing labs in every academic building, the Library, and the residence halls. Our wireless computing lounge space indoors and out includes the cafeteria, library, student union, and academic buildings. PROGRAMS Mansfield University offers over 70 undergraduate degree programs, six graduate degree programs, and six two-year associate degree programs. ''Baccalaureate programs'' Business: Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Science, Economics, Human Resource Management, Information Systems, International Business, Management, Marketing, Travel and Tourism. Communication: Education: Secondary Education Teacher Certification: Fine and Applied Arts: Health Sciences: Humanities and Social Sciences: Natural Sciences: Academic Exploration Program (AEP): ''Associate programs'' Criminal Justice Administration, Geography: Mapping Technology, Information Systems, Radiology Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Travel and Tourism. ''Graduate programs'' Art Education, Education, Music, School Library and Information Technologies, Special Education, Nursing. FACULTY Mansfield’s faculty is composed of approximately 180 members. The student-faculty ratio is about 17:1, allowing for extensive classroom interaction. All of our classes are taught by faculty members, over 75% of which have their PhDs. STUDENTS Mansfield University enrolled 3390 students for Fall 2005; 2807 full-time and 583 part-time; 2210 female, 1180 male. Students come from 14 states and 20 foreign countries. ATHLETICS As a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, our 14 intercollegiate teams play at the Division II level. Our north and south athletic complexes are continually being updated to ensure our athletes top-notch facilities. Mansfield’s Shaute Field is considered one of the top Division II baseball complexes in the Northeast and boasts one of the largest seating capacities of any stadium in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Women's Programs - Soccer, Field Hockey, Basketball, Cross-country, Swimming, Softball, Indoor Track, Track & Field. Men's Programs - Football, Cross-country, Basketball, Baseball, Indoor Track, Track & Field. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES There are over 100 clubs & organizations on campus, from the Ski and Snowboarding Club to the Debate Association. There are plenty of concerts, lectures, films, athletic events and community and residence hall activities to keep your calendar filled. Train for the Olympics or just drop by for a friendly game of intramurals at the new campus fitness center. You'll find state of the art weight training and cardio equipment, basketball, racquetball and badminton courts, and it's all just a one-minute walk from any of the residence halls. FACILITIES On our 175-acre campus, Mansfield boasts of Four Residence Halls (co-ed by floor), On-campus Television Studio, On-campus Radio Station, Campus Newspaper Office, North Hall Library, Grant Science Planetarium, Decker Gymnasium and Olympic-size Swimming Pool, Kelchner Fitness Center, Straughn Auditorium, Steadman Theatre, in addition to our academic and administrative buildings.
