Personal blog about Makkovik, current population about 400, depicting photographs taken by v.s.o. teachers who helped keep its school open 1965-70. Makkovik, is located 120 miles north-east of Happy Valley-Goose Bay on the north Labrador coast. It is accessible by ship and plane in summer and by plane and skidoo in winter depending on the weather. Accommodation is provided by The Adlavik Inn hotel/restaurant and three bed and breakfast/boarding houses. Torngat Fish Producers Cooperative process crab and fish, employing over 100 workers during peak times from June to mid - November. The local people also net fish, hunt and pick wildberries.
