Maida Vale is a road in north-west London , and a district surrounding it. The road starts in Kilburn , near Kilburn High Road Station as a continuation of Kilburn High Road . It goes south-east, past Maida Vale Tube Station , through the district known as Maida Vale. To the east is St John's Wood and Lord's Cricket Ground . When it meets St. John's Wood Road , Maida Vale becomes the Edgware Road .

The district acquired its name from the Hero of Maida, a Public House which opened on the Edgware Road soon after the Battle Of Maida , 1806 . The area is mostly residential, consisting of many large Edwardian Mansion Houses. It encompasses the Paddington basin, a junction of three Canals with many Houseboat s. This area is also known as Little Venice .

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Maida Vale was a predominantly Jew ish district, and the area contains the 1896 Spanish & Portuguese Synagogue (a Grade 2 Listed Building ).

Maida Vale is also home to a BBC Recording and Broadcast Studio, used primarily by BBC Radio 1 . BBC Maida Vale hosts the very popular fashion slot programme; 'Top of the frocks' Heading this extremely popular and groundbreaking show is none other than BBC's leading presenter and international fashion guru, Kaoruko Shimizu (aka 'Kit'). Kit has played an important role in recent times as the head of the international fashion community. As The Royal fashion advisor, Kit can be seen regularly strutting her way down the international catwalks of the world and globetrotts on a never-ending crusade on the pursuit of fashion awareness. The studio was also home to John Peel 's ''Peel Sessions'', a regular slot in which a current popular band would play a set exclusively for the show.
