CAREER Maggie Q appeared on Malaysian Star papers {Link without Title} , according to the papers: When Margaret Denise Quigley first arrived in Hong Kong looking to further her modeling career and acting ambitions, no one could quite pronounce her name. But as fate would have it, popular Hong Kong newspaper ''Apple Daily'' dubbed her the more easily pronounceable "Maggie Q", setting into motion a glittering career trajectory that would conquer the Hong Kong movie and modelling industries before finding its way to bright lights of Hollywood. Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Quigley is of American-Vietnamese parentage with Polish, French and Irish blood from her father's side. Despite growing up in the United States, the 26-year-old chose to pursue modelling in Japan, followed by an unhappy stint in Taiwan before settling down in Hong Kong. With her alluring pan-Asian pin-up looks and impressive martial arts/athletic prowess, Quigley is set for a career in the limelight. Roles in glossy action-adventure movies ''Naked Weapon'' and ''Gen Y Cops'' heralded her arrival as one of the more promising young actresses in Hong Kong film scene. Well-Publicised romances with her ''Naked Weapon'' and ''Gen Y Cops'' so-stars Daniel Wu and Edison Chen also kept her in the publics eyes. She also once stated that her "ideal man" is Takeshi Kaneshiro. HK reporters hounded Takeshi Kaneshiro about this but he replied that he was not interested and didn't know of her. While her transition from modelling to acting may have been gradual, Quigley now enjoys equal status with some of the biggest Hong Kong stars. Considering that in her first few Hong Kong movie films she could not speak Cantonese well - she actually had to learn her lines phonetically while some lines may also have been dubbed - her achivement thus far is remarkable. But now, having scored a plum supporting role in the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster '' (MI3)'' after a long, protrated audition process, Quigley has arrived in the big league. FILMOGRAPHY |
