Madison County is a County located in the State of Georgia . As of 2000 , the population is 25,730. The County Seat is Danielsville, Georgia 6 .


GEOGRAPHY

According to the U.S. Census Bureau , the county has a total area of 740 Km&2 (286 Mi&2 ). 735 km&2 (284 mi&2) of it is land and 4 km&2 (2 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 0.59% water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 25,730 people, 9,800 households, and 7,330 families residing in the county. The Population Density was 35/km&2 (91/mi&2). There were 10,520 housing units at an average density of 14/km&2 (37/mi&2). The racial makeup of the county was 89.01% White , 8.46% Black or African American , 0.19% Native American , 0.28% Asian , 0.03% Pacific Islander , 1.03% from Other Races , and 0.99% from two or more races. 1.97% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 9,800 households out of which 34.60% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.60% were Married Couples living together, 10.60% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.20% were non-families. 21.50% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.00% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.61 and the average family size was 3.04.

In the county the population was spread out with 26.30% under the age of 18, 8.20% from 18 to 24, 30.60% from 25 to 44, 23.90% from 45 to 64, and 11.00% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 96.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.70 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $36,347, and the median income for a family was $42,189. Males had a median income of $31,324 versus $22,426 for females. The Per Capita Income for the county was $16,998. 11.60% of the population and 9.20% of families were below the Poverty Line . 14.00% of those under the age of 18 and 16.50% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
