''Maakies'' is a syndicated weekly Comic Strip by Tony Millionaire . It is the darkly humorous story of Drinky Crow, a Crow , and Uncle Gabby, a Monkey , two savagely violent Antihero es with a taste for Alcoholic Beverage s, Suicide , and Sexual Dysfunction . Maakies strips usually take place in an 18th century nautical setting. Millionaire has stated the name ''Maakies'' has no meaning, and he simply chose the word because he liked the look of the two A's beside each other. He explains that he intends ''Maakies'' to be pronounced so that it Rhyme s with the Bostonian pronunciation of ''car keys''. In Norwegian, a "måke" (English spelling "maake") is a seagull, which features as a prominent character in the series. A few Maakies short animations were shown on Saturday Night Live in the 1990s. Four Book s have been compiled from the strip - ''Maakies'', ''The House at Maakies Corner'', ''When We Were Very Maakies'', and ''Der Struwwelmaakies''. The stories in the Comic Book Sock Monkey have a loose connection to Maakies. EXTERNAL LINK |
