Much of Beaufront's life is shrouded in mystery. It was only after his death that it was discovered that he was not really a Marquis and that his real name was "Louis Chevreux". Beaufront first discovered Esperanto in 1888 and in 1889 founded the Esperanto organization, the ''Société Pour la Propagation de l'Espéranto'' (SPPE), and in 1900 wrote a commentary on Esperanto Grammar (''Commentaire sur la grammaire espéranto''). He was a member of the Delegation For The Adoption Of An International Auxiliary Language and attended its meetings in 1907 . He was probably the principal author of the original Ido project which impressed the Delegation Committee and led to the reform of Esperanto by the Permanent Commission. Beaufront remained an active Idist thereafter, and wrote the ''Kompleta Gramatiko Detaloza'', published in 1925 . |
