Lou Macari





PLAYING CAREER

Lou was an Attacking Midfielder for Manchester United in the 1970's and early 1980's. He was bought from Celtic in 1973 . His first game for the club came in January 1973 against West Ham . His shot deflected off team mate Jimmy Greenhoff to win the 1977 FA Cup final against Liverpool . He made 373 appearances for the club and scored 97 goals.


MANAGEMENT CAREER

After leaving United in 1984 , he managed Swindon Town , West Ham , Stoke City (twice), Celtic , Birmingham City and Huddersfield Town . He also worked as a consultant on the development of a computer game called ''Super League Manager''.

His sons Michael and Paul have also played professionally with Stoke, when Lou was manager of the club. His youngest son Jonathan committed suicide in 1999 after being released from his contract at Nottingham Forest .

Lou currently resides in Stoke-on-Trent and works as a pundit for MUTV on several shows including a betting show called "Sing When Your Winning". He occasionally does punditry for Sky Sports and Setanta Sports .

Added to this, Lou owns the legendary "Lou Macari Chip Shop" on Warwick Road , also known as Sir Matt Busby Way , which is a popular takeaway on matchdays.
