GEOGRAPHY


Los Alamos is located at 35°53'28" North, 106°17'52" West (35.891086, -106.297727).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the townsite has a total area of 28.1 Km&2 (10.9 Mi&2 ). 28.1 km&2 (10.9 mi&2) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census of 2000, there were 11,909 people, 5,110 households, and 3,372 families residing in the CDPsite. The Population Density was 423.4/km&2 (1,096.2/mi&2). There were 5,463 housing units at an average density of 194.2/km&2 (502.8/mi&2). The racial makeup of the CDPsite was 89.13% White , 0.44% African American , 0.56% Native American , 4.47% Asian , 0.04% Pacific Islander , 3.01% from Other Races , and 2.35% from two or more races. 12.21% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 5,110 households out of which 31.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.4% were Married Couples living together, 6.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.0% were non-families. 29.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.89.

In the townsite, the population was spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 4.8% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 101.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.1 males.

The median income for a household in the CDPsite was $71,536, and the median income for a family was $86,876. Males had a median income of $65,638 versus $39,352 for females. The Per Capita Income for the CDPsite was $34,240. 3.6% of the population and 2.4% of families were below the Poverty Line . 2.6% of those under the age of 18 and 5.3% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
