PAST AND PRESENT

SE1 also has sources of history. Charles Dickens, a writer, lived around the Borough(SE1)in his young days. Oliver Twist, one of his stories, was partly based around the area.
Other histories in SE1 include County Hall, in Waterloo, next to the riverbank. It was home to the London Government from the 40's until the 80's, but this function is now filled by the new City Hall. County Hall is still in use as a home to resturants, the London Aquarium, a games arcade and hotel rooms.

The Borough is getting more and more modernised, with redevelopments taking place nearly
everwhere. The latest is at Elephant & Castle. The redevelopment should be finished by 2018.

Modern developments finished are...
The Unicorn Theatre , a theatre at Tooley Street.
