The band recorded the song in 1975 , and released it as a single in 1978, but did not seek permission. Led Zeppelin's lawyers threatened to sue them and demanded that any remaining copies of the recording be destroyed. Recently, the recording's Producer , Kenny Laguna , played it for Robert Plant . It's said that when they recorded their next single, "Kennedy Girl" (based on Neil Young 's " Cinnamon Girl "), they approached the author before releasing it. Neil Young granted permission on the condition that they first provide him with a copy of "Stairway to Gilligan's Island". |
