Information About

Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne born '''Dwayne Michael Carter''' on ( September 27 , 1982 in New Orleans, Louisiana ) (aka '''Weezy F. Baby''', '''Birdman Jr.''', '''Raw Tunes''') is an African American Rap Prodigy and President of the Cash Money Records label and Young Money Entertainment who has recently garnered much respect and critical acclaim for his lyrical and rap flow maturation and unique rhyme scheme. He claims to be "the best rapper alive since the best rapper retired" (an allusion to Jay-Z 's recent retirement from rap) which has since become a popular quote amongst rap fans. Lil Wayne, self proclaimed "prince of the south" has also obtained the nickname weezy to the clear weeziness of his lyrical raps and voice.

PERSONAL HISTORY

Lil Wayne was signed to Cash Money Records at a very young age. After seeing Lil Wayne dressed in gang affiliated colors, his mother pulled the plug on Wayne's career with Cash Money. Wayne then ran away from home with his stepfather's gun. While playing with the gun, Lil Wayne accidentally shot himself and was taken to the hospital when found. After waking up in the hospital, he told the authorities that the gun belonged to his stepfather. His stepfather was arrested for having an unregistered handgun. Shortly after being released from jail, his stepfather was shot and killed. Wayne now has a large Tattoo of the words "Bang Bang" on his chest to commemorate his shooting and also has "In Memory of Rabbit: It's up to me" tattooed on his arm, in honor of his beloved slain father..

Lil Wayne has one daughter, Regginae and one younger brother named Justin Keller who he has raised that lives in Houston Texas now and just recently moved away from the northern part of Shreveport Louisiana.

CAREER

Lil Wayne credits Cash Money recording artists such as Pimp Daddy and U.N.L.V. as some of his early rap influences. At the age of 11, Wayne would drop out of school to fully pursue a rap career after meeting the Cash Money owner and CEO Ronald "Slim" and Brian "Baby aka Birdman" Williams who would sign him to their recording label. Younger brother Justin Keller wanted to follow in footsteps of Lil Wayne and also pursue his rap career but was too young and mother did not want him to put life in jeopardy. In 1995 at the age of 12, Wayne made his debut with then fellow label mate B.G. as the duo "The B.G.'s", with the album titled ''True Story''. It should be noted that Wayne never rapped about adolescent issues, unlike most young rappers who perform Bubblegum Rap until their late teens. He did, however, refrain from swearing in his rhymes at the behave of his mother. However, this only earned Wayne more respect for being able to rhyme without the aid of swearing as fillers.

In 1997, Lil Wayne formed the Hot Boys along with Juvenile , Turk , and B.G. , and they dropped their seminal debut CD ''Get It How You Live''. The record's success earned the young teenager legions of fans throughout the south and midwest. He further distinguished himself on the Hot Boys' platinum selling Universal debut ''Guerilla Warfare'' released in 1998, followed by their 2003 release ''Let Em Burn.''

At age 16, Wayne launched his solo career with the release of ''Tha Block Is Hot'' 1999. This were followed by ''Lights Out'' in 2000 and ''500 Degreez'' an allusion to Juvenile's ''400 Degreez'' in 2002.

In 2004, Lil Wayne released '' Tha Carter ''. This album is marked as a milestone as he claimed to have finally perfected his trade. It was also ''Tha Carter'' that finally earned Wayne respect outside the south as a lyricist because at that time (and even still today), southern rappers are stereotyped with little to no lyrical ability.

On December 6th, 2005, to much critical acclaim, Lil Wayne released '' Tha Carter II '' which further solidified his title as a great rapper. ''Tha Carter II'' debuted at no. 2 on Billboard's Top 100 Albums chart and is currently platinum. Lead single off the album, "Fireman", became a hit in the US, peaking in the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Chart. The second single, "Grown Man", was solicited to urban radios in January of 2006 in hopes of spreading to Top 40 Mainstream and then to the Hot 100, but failed to do so and failed to receive any attention due to lack of promotion and no video. Third single "Hustler Muzik" received a video and is currently gaining minor attention also. "Hustler Muzik" recently debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at #96.

STYLE CONTROVERSY

Lil Wayne's style on mixtapes and most notably on ''Tha Carter'' and ''Tha Carter II'' has been noticeably similar to that of Jay-Z . Many Wayne critics accused him of "biting" or stealing, Jay-Z's flow. However, Lil Wayne has made it no secret that he had a great deal of admiration and respect for Jay-Z as an artist, even pegging Jay-Z as the greatest rapper before he had retired. Ironically, Jay-Z has also been accused of biting other great rappers such as Notorious B.I.G.

THA CARTER II MIXTAPES

Since the release of ''Tha Carter II'', two cds of unreleased tracks have been leaked to the internet (Tha Carter 2.5 and Tha Carter 2.7) which consisted of tracks he did not include on ''Tha Carter II''. Wayne released his official ''Tha Carter II'' mixtape, '' Tha Carter II, Part II, Like Father like Son,'' which includes Dj Khaled, Baby, and Lil' Wayne himself.

BIDDING FOR LIL WAYNE

Following acclamations for ''Tha Carter'', newly minted Def Jam president Jay-Z entered into a bidding war with Cash Money for Lil Wayne. Universal Records also made an offer to Lil Wayne rumored to have been in the millions. During this time, Cam'ron of The Diplomats was also said to have been interested in signing Wayne. However, Wayne eventually resigned with Cash Money and earned himself a new label, " Young Money Entertainment ," distributed through Cash Money/Universal which first featured his crew Sqad Up . That group soon parted ways on bad terms and now Lil Wayne has a new group named Young Money . The group consists of Curren, Mack Maine, Boo, and Lil' Wayne, himself.
