Liberty Square was originally designed for Disneyland in California. But when the Magic Kingdom was being designed by Walt Disney Imagineering in the late 1960s for Walt Disney World, they decided to develop an area analogous to, but distinct from, New Orleans Square at Disneyland . They settled on a New England , American Revolution -period theme, with many nods to the American Revolutionary War . Attractions This area of the park is based on an American Revolutionary town. The Magic Kingdom's Rivers of America hosts the Liberty Belle river boat.
