Born in ) on October 13, 1913. A top scorer of the AKS Chorzow , which in 1937 was the vice-champion of Poland, 1938 top scorer of the Polish Soccer League (with 21 goals). Piatek was a very hard-working and ambitious forward player. Represented Polish National Team in 16 games (1937–1939), scoring 11 goals (including 2 in a 4-0 World Cup qualifier vs. Yugoslavia ). Took part in the legendary 1938 World Cup Soccer game Poland - Brazil 5-6 ( Strasburg , France , June 5, 1938). Also played and scored a goal in the last international game of interwar Poland ( Warsaw , August 27, 1939, Poland - Hungary 4-2). During World War II he signed a German Nationality List ( Volkslista ) which enabled him to continue the career. His team, AKS Chorzow, was forced by the Germans to change the name to Germania Königshütte . With Piatek as the key player, Germania was in early 40s the best team of Upper Silesia, in 1941–44 winning the championships of Silesian Regional League ( Gauliga ).
