Information About

Leeds Girls' High School

Leeds Girls' High School (LGHS) is an independent, selective school for girls aged 3-18 in Leeds . The school officially merged with Leeds Grammar School to form the Grammar School At Leeds in 2005 ; the merger process is to be completed in 2007.
It has three sections.

Rose court 3 - 7 year olds

Ford House 7 - 11 years olds

Senior School 11 - 19 years olds

The school motto is 'Age Quod Agis', which translates as 'do what you do'. Whilst seemingly tautological at first glance, it is in fact a corruption of the Biblical exhortion, "whatsoever thy turn thy hand to, do it with all thy might".

A LITERARY REFERENCE

""It is some time in 1950, while passing the First Church of Christian Science at the top of Headingley Lane, that I come to the conclusion that, all things considered, I am homosexual. The church has since moved to more modest premises and the imposing Portland stone temple that was witness to this boyish assessment is now an adjunct of Leeds Girls' High School."
From Alan Bennett 's ''Untold Stories'' (2005). (The building referred to is the school's music department.)
