Information About

Leeds Co-op

Leeds Co-op was set up in 1847 and by the 1860s it was the country's largest co-operative society and it became the City's major retailer. Although it started as a flour miller, the society soon diversified into food and non-food retailing. Leeds Co-op is now the oldest independent society in Britain and one of the largest businesses in Leeds. It is now a small co-operative, the 19th largest co-operative Society in the United Kingdom, as other societies have merged.

The current status of the society stands at over 700 employees and 100,000 members, trading at nineteen Food Supermarkets , eighteen travel agencies, nine Funeral divisions and a large property portfolio in West Yorkshire. It is a shareholder of the Co-operative Group and trades using the co-op brand.
