Information About

Lee Clark

In his early career, he was commonly known as 'Jigsaw' among the Geordie faithful, because he often 'went to pieces in the box'. This, however didn't seem to wain Clark's popularity during his 9 year stint at Newcastle United, mainly due to his genuine passion for the club he was playing for in a world where money was taking over.

Prior to the 2005/06 Season , Clark returned to his first club, Newcastle United , coaching and playing on a month-by-month contract. He was allowed to leave Fulham F.C. after his contract expired in the summer of 2005 - to mixed reactions from Fulham fans, as he had been named club captain for the 2004/05 Season and was Fulham's longest-serving player at the time.

He is perhaps most famous for being photographed wearing a t-shirt with the words "Sad Mackem Bastards" at the FA Cup final. As a Newcastle fan this was hardly controversial, but as a current Sunderland player (Mackems being a mildly derogatory nickname for people from that town) it was a sackable offence. He never played for Sunderland again.

Clark has scored one goal for Newcastle so far in the 2005-2006 season, the crucial equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Middlesbrough F.C. . His Newcastle United goal tally reaching 26 in all competitions.
