Laurel Springs is a Borough located in Camden County , New Jersey . As of the United States 2000 Census , the borough had a total population of 1,970. GEOGRAPHY Laurel Springs is located at 39°49'20" North, 75°0'15" West (39.822147, -75.004238). According to the United States Census Bureau , the borough has a total area of 1.2 Km&2 (0.5 Mi&2 ). 1.2 km&2 (0.5 mi&2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. Laurel Springs borders Lindenwold and Stratford . DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 1,970 people, 762 households, and 534 families residing in the borough. The Population Density was 1,618.3/km&2 (4,213.5/mi&2). There were 806 housing units at an average density of 662.1/km&2 (1,723.9/mi&2). The racial makeup of the borough was 94.37% White , 2.74% African American , 0.25% Native American , 0.96% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.71% from Other Races , and 0.96% from two or more races. 1.62% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 762 households out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% were Married Couples living together, 11.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.9% were non-families. 26.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.16. In the borough the population was spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 31.0% from 25 to 44, 22.8% from 45 to 64, and 14.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 99.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.7 males. The median income for a household in the borough was $52,500, and the median income for a family was $58,854. Males had a median income of $41,349 versus $30,893 for females. The Per Capita Income for the borough was $23,254. 3.7% of the population and 1.9% of families were below the Poverty Line . 3.4% of those under the age of 18 and 1.4% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line. GOVERNMENT Local government The Mayor of Laurel Springs Borough is David A. Thatcher. Members of the Laurel Springs Borough Council are Vincent J. Green, Craig Leib, Richard McCunney, James Redstreak, Thomas Reiley and Gayle Schmidt. Federal, state and county representation Laurel Springs is in the First Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 4th Legislative District. EDUCATION Students in Pre-K through sixth grade attend Laurel Springs School, part of the Laurel Springs School District. Students in seventh through eighth grade attend Samuel S. Yellin Elementary School with 518 students in grades 4 - 8 in Stratford as part of sending / receiving relationship with the Stratford School District . For grades 9 - 12, students attend Sterling High School , a regional high school serving students from Magnolia , Somerdale , Stratford , along with the sending districts of Hi-Nella and Laurel Springs .
