This car is very loosely based on its more common road-going counterpart, the Lancia Monte Carlo (also known as ''Scorpion'' in the US and Canadian markets). As for the 037 part of the name, this was a project carried out by Abarth (another car maker under FIAT 's corporate wing) whose project number was 37. Walter Röhrl nearly took the Lancia to World Championship honours in 1983 with only 6 entries, but the lack of 4WD limited its competitivness on gravel events, despite a win in Greece. |
