Lake Zarivar




Lake Zarivar ( in the province of Kurdistan , Iran . The lake has a length of 5 km and a maximum width of 1.6 km and lies west of Marivan . The lake's water is sparkingly fresh and has a maximum depth of 50 m.

Zirêwar lake is a major touristic attraction in the region. There is a great deal of Folklore about the origins of this lake amongst the Kurdish people of the area.

In Kurdish Mythology it is said that the ancient residents of the area believed that there was a city named ''Zrivar'' (Zirêbar in ''local'' Kurdish dialect) that was drowned due to a disaster from Ahura Mazda ( Zoroastrian God of the Good).
