Lac La Biche is a town in the province of Alberta , Canada . It is located approximately 300 km north of the provincial capital of Edmonton .

Lac La Biche is one of Alberta's oldest communities, with its recorded history dating back to explorer David Thompson 's passage in 1798 . The community is supported by the Oil Patch , Logging , Forestry , and Commercial Fishing .

Lac La Biche is an ethnically diverse community, and can boast of having one of the first Mosque s in Alberta. The Lac La Biche Mission is a national historic site and was one of the first Residential School s in Alberta.
