'' (恐竜戦隊ジュウレンジャー ''Kyôryū Sentai Juurenjaa'') was the 16th entry of the Sentai Series (and 14th Super Sentai). Produced by Toei Company Ltd. and Bandai , it aired on TV Asahi from February 21 , 1992 to February 12 , 1993 , with a total of 50 episodes. Its footage was used in the first season of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers .
170,000,000 years ago, five ancient human kingdoms, with the protection of the Shōgozyu, coexisted peacefully with the dinosaurs. This ended when an evil witch named Bandora started a war on the dinosaurs because of the death of her son Kai. Bandora decided that the only way her son Kai's death could be avenged was if she sold her sould to Dai satan, an evil almost ice head creature who had immense power and who in the later series could be summoned to help Bandora. In the end, five kingdoms were ruined and the dinosaurs became extinct. The Shōgozyu sealed Bandora and her minions on the planet Nemesis before going into hibernation. In 1992, Nemesis returned to near Earth's orbit. Two Japan ese astronauts exploring the planet accidentally released her and her minions from their prison. With Bandora free, her enemy, the wizard Barza retreated to his underground lair 2,000 metres below the apartment building where he worked as a front. There, he revived the five warriors he had been guarding, who had been in suspended animation to be awakened when they were needed. These five were each a member of the ancient human tribes, who co-existed with the dinosaurs. With the aid of the Shōugozyu, the ZyuRangers fought Bandora and her Dora Monsters.
The ZyuRangers were the five greatest warriors of the ancient kingdoms. They went into suspended animation to be ready in the event Bandora escapes her prison.
- : He was a prince of ancient mankind's Yamato kingdom, symbolized by the Tyrannosaurus . He was called the Seigi no Senshi (正義の戦士 "Warrior of Justice"). After the death of Burai, the '''Dragon Armor''' is succeeded to TyrannoRanger. When TyrannoRanger wears the Dragon Armor, he is called '''Armed Tyranno''', and can generate his power three to five times higher than usual.

- : Another warrior who was in suspended animation in a cave outside of town. He was resurrected by Gnome's' grandson and attacked the ZyuRangers. Geki soon learned that Burai was his older brother, the son of the Black Knight. Their father, the Black Knight, was a prideful man who showed utter disrespect to his monarch, Yamato King. The childless King, rather than executing him, penalized the Knight with his younger son, Geki, adopting the boy as his heir. Black Knight was unable to come to terms with this loss and led a rebellion to take back Geki only to be killed in a duel by the Yamato King. Burai, witnessing his father's death, swore revenge by stealing the Yamato kingdom's Dragon Armor treasure and vowed to kill his younger brother. Burai eventually made peace with Geki and joined the team, helping every once and awhile. It turned out that Burai's life was limited; his sleep chamber had caved in and crushed him, but the gods had brought him back to life because his Dragon Caesar would be needed by Zyuranger. When he eventually died, he gave Geki his Zyusouken (to summon Dragon Caesar) and the Dragon Armor. He was called the Chikara no Senshi (力の戦士 "Warrior of Power").
- --- Legendary Weapon: (Beast Play Sword). The Zyusouken can be used by Burai to command and control Dragon Caesar.
- : Each Ranger wears a Dinobuckler which is a detachable golden buckle placed on each ZyuRanger's waistband. The Dinobuckler is two-sided: the folded grip-side is out before the ZyuRangers transformation, and the side showing the golden medallion on which the figure of his/her own Shōgozyu is carved after. Before the transformation, the Dinobuckler can be used in battle as a knuckle cover. The golden medallion is the vital source of ZyuRangers power; it stores '''Gaiatron''' energy, a mysterious and perpetual power-source derived from mother nature. With its internal energy, the medallion also has the power to heal a wounded person. While inside their Shōgozyu, the ZyuRangers can turn their medallions into '''Dynocrystals''' which help in the tranformation process of Daizyujin and Gouryuujin.
- : Each Slinger can be combined with the Ranger Gun to form a mightier blaster called Ranger Slinger. When the ZyuRangers shoot their Ranger Slinger simultaneously to the target, the combined attack is the ''Ranger Slinger Final Shot'', which brings critical damage to enemies, even to giant-sized Dora Monsters.
- ---: Other than being used individually, the Ranger Sticks are used together in the '''Babel Attack'''. The five ZyuRangers form a tower, bring the tips of each Ranger Stick toward the center, and then shoot the combined, powerful shock-wave.

- ---: Obtained in #29, the Thunder Slinger, is a slinger-shaped blaster, and is a common weapon for the Rangers. By pulling and releasing the energy shaft in the back of Thunder Slinger, the ZyuRangers can shoot the energy arrows from the upper muzzle and smash enemies. They can also shoot paralysing beams from two lower muzzles.
- : When the five '''Legendary Weapons''' are combined, the Howling Cannon, a powerful bazooka which can easily demolish a multi-storied building, is formed. The Howling Cannon is often used to bring critical damage to normal-sized Dora Monsters.
The ZyuRangers own three special motorcycles called . The Zaurer Machines are,
- : motorcycle for Geki/TyrannoRanger. It is equipped with a powerful machinegun in front, and can run up to 320km/h.
- : motorcycle for Goushi/MammothRanger, with a sidecar for Boi/TigerRanger. It is equipped with two mini-cannon in front, and can run up to 280km/h.
- : motorcycle for Dan/TriceraRanger, with a sidecar for Mei/PteraRanger. It is equipped with two mighty machineguns in front, and can run up to 300km/h.
- : He was the immortal wizard who looked after the ZyuRangers during their long sleep. He worked as an apartment manager in the building above their resting place. He was known as the Priest of Snow.
- : He was an old friend of Barza, and the holder of Burai's key. He hoped that Burai would simply die inside the cave so that he would not be unleashed upon the world.
- : Gnome's grandchild. 170 million years ago, Burai saved him from a rock that threatened to crush him. In the present day, he took Gnome's key, and unsealed Burai, against his grandfather's wishes.
- : the goddess of fate. When the ZyuRangers went into suspended animation, Burai followed them in his own chamber. However, the ZyuRangers had Barza to look after them while Burai had no one. This proved tragic as an earthquake caused the cave where Burai was sleeping to collapse, crushing the helpless Burai to death. Daizyujin asked Klotho to restore Burai's life, because the ZyuRangers would need his Dragon Caesar. However, his life force was limited. Soon after Burai was revived, and after he betrayed Bandora, Klotho took him to the Lapseless Room and gave him the Zyusouken. Klotho told him he had about 30 hours left, and left him with a green candle that would represent his remaining life force. The Lapseless Room is a chamber were time stood still, and every time Burai went out to aid his brother a portion of the candle would melt away.
The Avatars of the Dinosaur Gods, who were all original one entity. Even though the Shōgozyus are shaped as such, they are not robots. They are the agents of the ancient gods which the ZyuRangers and their tribes worship. Therefore, each Shōgozyu has its own will and possesses a mysterious power which even ZyuRangers cannot fathom.
- : When Zyutei Daizyujin and King Tankor are combined, the colossal Kyuukyoku Daizyujin is formed. Although Kyuukyoku Daizyujin was the last to be introduced, it is the original form of the ancient god, and the mightiest form in all Shōgozyu combinations. Final attack: ''Grand Banisher'', a massive barrage of energy. It has immense power, enough to defeat Dai Satan in the finale.
- --- : Daizyujin and Dragon Caesar can combine to form Zyutei Daizyujin. Zyutei Daizyujin attacks enemies with a blast of mighty beams called the ''Kaizer Burst''. Final Attack: ''Empire Attack'', a massive ball of energy blazen with a "Z" on it.
-- : The combined form of the five Shōgozyu. Daizyujin has his own will as an agent of the Gods, and sometimes gives challenges or suggests the right directions for ZyuRangers to help their quest to be real heroes. He wields the ''Mammoth Shield'' and the ''Dinosaur Sword Godhorn'', which he uses in his ''Super Legendary Lightning Cut'' attack. Daizyujin can flexibly change into the '''Dinotankor''', which attacks enemies with its two powerful cannons the ''Zyusensha Cannons'', or with laser blasts from the eyes of each Shōgozyu called the ''Zyusensha Storm''.
- : Bigger and mightier than the other primary Shōgozyus, it has finished several giant Dora Monsters with its ''Tyranno Sonic'' shockwave.
- : It can blow glacial gas called ''Moth Blizzard'' of -200°C from the trunk to freeze enemies.
- : Its two horns can be shot to capture the enemies with chains. It is also equipped with two ''Tricera Cannons'' on its back.
- : Its running speed excels that of all the other Shōgozyus. It also has two mighty laser gun called the ''Saber Gun'' on its tail.
- : It is the only Shōgozyu with flying ability, and its flying speed can go as high as Mach 2.5. It emits ''Ptera Beams'' from its wings.
-- : Its superb combat ability matches that of Tyrannosaurus. It has a strong drill on its tail, and its ''Dragon Hurley'', a blast of missiles launched from the fingertips, is powerful enough to smash giant Dora Monsters. Dragon Caesar is shown emitting a pentagon-shaped force field from the lights on his chest in design sketches, but never did so in the show. He can combine wih Zyumammoth, Triceratops, and Sabertiger to form Gouryuujin.
- : The combined form of Dragon Caesar with Zyumammoth, Triceratops, and Sabertiger, who uses the ''Strong Dragon's Lance Dragon Antler'' for his ''Super Blast Dragon Thrust'' attack.
-- : The seventh Shōgozyu, which resembles a Brachiosaurus. King Brachion is no one's Shōgozyu. It's called the Zyukishin (''Creature Knight God''), and has its own will just as the other Shōgozyus. When its two ''Tail Cannons'' are slid forward, it forms the '''King Tankor'''.
- (11): A genie who has the power to grant wishes. Bandora stole the lamp and turned Jin into a DoraMonster, shattering the lamp in the process. After his lamp was restored, Jin returned to normal. He was sealed away to prevent any further use for evil.
- (14): An elf who was applying for a job as Puripurikan’s assistant, but was kicked out by Bandora. DonDon met a kindred spirit in Toshio, a boy who also got frequently picked on. They become friends and go around sucking things into Dondon’s magic bottles--including planes and buildings with people inside. After seeing Dondon trapping Boi and Dan in his bottle, Bandora decided to recruit DonDon, promising to both him and Toshio the power to get back at all the people who push them around. It took Toshio’s mother convince him & DonDon that there are people who care about them. After he and Toshio return everything to normal, DonDon goes on his way, but not before giving Toshio a black toy replica of Daizyujin.
- (39): A underground monster who was powerful, but had a gentle heart. Goda rarely lays eggs, so he was extremely protective of his line. He lost it when two of his eggs were devoured by Bandora's gang, who then gave the blame to the ZyuRangers. After Goda ran off, Bandora toyed with Goda's emotions by saying she'll restore his eggs if he destroys the ZyuRangers for her. He agreed, being filled with a hatred of humans as he enlarges. Despite their plea, Goda was too hate-filled and had to be killed, with the help of Gouryuujin. But the last egg would hatch eventually, with a new Goda to be born.
- (30-31, 48-50): The ultimate evil, a floating blue-skinned head. He used Bandora to try to lay the Earth to waste 170 million years ago and uses her again to finish the job. He even brought Kai back to life to cement the deal. He was finally killed by his arch-nemesis, Kyuukyouku Daizyujin in the finale.
- : An evil witch who was queen of the Dal (Fairy) Tribe, until her son Kai was inadvertently killed by a dinosaur. Torn by grief, she went mad and sold her soul to the devil for the power to avenge her son & slaughtered the dinosaurs. She has seemingly unlimited magical abilities, including enlarging her Dora Monsters. She & her minions are usually located at '''Bandora Palace''', which was on the moon. Loses her powers after shreding a tear over Kai's death and is sealed away by Daizyujin along with all her henchmen. During the last time we see her, she is overwhelmed by the cuteness of Lammy and Griffozer's son and cradles him around. She occasional sings her theme song, ''Dolla! The Song of Witch Bandora''. Has a bad habit of getting extremely furious when defeated in a hilarious manner. Does crazy things like going on a crash diet as well.
- : A lion-faced griffin knight who wields the ''Grifocaliber IV'' sword and can fly. He is Lamie's husband. Grifforzar was mute until Lamie came along.
- : A wingless vampire bat monster who is a scatterbrain alchemist. A fast-talker sort, talking faster when nervous.
- : A blue skinned hobgoblin who records Bandora's evil deeds.
- : A leprechuanish potter who forges the Dora Monsters & Golem Soldiers out of clay.
- (19-50): Human-looking agent of Bandora who entered the scene after 170 years of waiting for the return of her husband, Grifforzar. She wields the ''Lami Boomerang'', a crescent-shaped blade that doubles as a sword. But when she is enlarged, she becomes the monstrous '''Lamia-Scorpion''' with an electrocuting stinger on her ponytail. She gives birth to her and Grifforzar's son at the end of the series.
- (47-50): Bandora's dead son who was killed in a fight with a dinosaur, which he started. Resurrected for the series finale as the pilot of Dora Talos. Later dies in his mothers arms following Dora Talos' destruction.
- : Warriors made out of clay. Their hands can change into varying shapes like boulder-fists & stone-blades. There are usually Captain Golems, armored versions, that led the others.
- (47-50): A giant mecha piloted by Kai, Bandora's resurrected son. It has various weapons and could use Kai's telekineses. Daizyujin, Dragon Caesar and Gouryuujin were of no match for this new menace. After being destroyed by Kyuukyouku Daizyujin, Bandora casts a spell that caused the ground to callapse from underneath King Brachion, causing him to sink into the ground. Dai Satan later rebuilt Dora Talos into a more powerful form with extended blades from its arms which it used to severe Daizyujin's left arm and half of Dragon Caesar's tail, living Bandora free to cast a spell that causes the two mecha to disappear. The ZyuRangers later learn from Burai's ghost that Daizyujin, Dragon Caesar and King Brachion are trapped in Bandora's magical world. After the ZyuRangers escaped after smashing globes containing their mecha, they were back at full strength and attacked Dora Talos through several quickly-asceding stages: separate Shōgozyu, Daizyujin, Dragon Caesar, Gouryuujin and finally Kyuukyouku Daizyujin destroying both Dai Satan and Dora Talos forever.
- (18-22): A sword Burai wielded after he was revived. Whoever held the sword made the bearer go crazy. Burai's tears made it turn to sand in the end.
- (34): A giant spinning wheel with spikes on the end. Destroyed by Kyuukyouku Daizyujin.
- (36): Whoever looked into this mirror would be killed instantly. Used on Ganrock, and later it was destroyed by Daizyujin.
Most are based on Greek myth.
- (1-2): A giant knight with a sword. He gave the Zyurangers a run for the money until Tyrannosaurus emerged. Killed by Tyrannosaurus after Dora Skeleton was killed.
- (2): A skeleton with a large hat, who could reassemble his body after being blown apart. His flying, disembodied skull could teleport people to a shadowy world. He was the only Dora Monster with his own grunts. Killed when his head was thrown into a lava pit causing his body to be destroyed.
- (3-4): This Dora Monster was used in an attempt to keep the Zyurangers from gaining the Legendary Weapons. Armed with a spiked club and shield, he could burrow underground. He could also shoot lightning from his horns & breathe a stream of fire. He received the full-blunt of the Howling Cannon, destroying him.
- (5-6): Posing as a game show host in a tuxedo & pharaoh's head-dress, he gives children un-answerable riddles. Once the children fail to answer correctly or run out of time, Dora Sphinx blows them off with his wings to imprisoned them in trees that are subject to be cut down very soon. In his true form, he wields a sceptre & could shoots a laser from the cobra ornament on his headdress. He was the first Dora Monster to fall at the hands of Daizyujin.
- (7): A Dora Monster whose favorite food is the souls of children, who he hypnotizes with his accordion. Dora Goblin can become invisible to adult eyes unless his puts his shoes on the wrong feet. The Zyurangers managed to use that to their advantage & defeated him. Killed by Daizyujin.
- '''Dora & gave it to Boi after he beat him in an eating contest. Through deception, the gang managed to get him to eat the Moly, which caused him to throw up everything he ate. Bandora was too-starved to grow her monster, so it was destroyed by the Howling Cannon.
- (9-10): A flying Dora Monster armed with a pair of scissors which he used to cut open a door in time & space to teleport during a fight. He was killed by Daizyujin, then recreated. The newer Cockatrice was armed with a pair of hedge trimmers and was able to fire crescent-shaped energy blades from the head-crest. Once again killed by Daizyujin.
- (12): A mass of eyeballs sent to torment a little girl via hallucinations of her father as a vampire. He had an array of energy beam attacks he could launch from his various eyes, & could reassemble himself if blown apart as long as his main eye is unharmed. He could also suck people inside his main eye to an illusionary world. Killed by Daizyujin.
- (13): An Dora Monster whose source of power was the golden-apple on his head. Knowing that Mei could be it's downfall, Bandora infected her with a poison apple, which put her to sleep. DoraLaddon used his snake-arrow to have small youth-draining apple-trees sprout from children’s heads. Ladon could also open his large mouth to spit out poisonous snakes at his foes, which would wrap up and weaken their targets. He had the upper hand against the others until Mei appeared. She used her Ptera Arrow to destroy the monster's apple & thus weakened him so he could be destroyed with the Howling Cannon.
- (15): An expert swordsman who used Durandal, an evil sword which Bandora had a 10-year old boy, Shigeru, make at midnight. This make Dora Knight invincible as Durandal made any other weapon it clashes with rusty. The only thing Durandal was unable to do was kill it's creator, Shigeru. Once Shigeru was in Daizyujin, Dora Knight was powerless and died.
- (16): Posing as a clown, he could create soccer balls that contained a sneezing powder. Once in his true form, he could spew little globs of exploding energy, and spray his sneezing powder. His only weakness was exposure to water and cold. Killed by Tyrannosaurus.
- (23): A unicorn-horned boy with fangs in a baseball uniform. He threw cupid-baseballs. Mei succeed in breaking off his horn & not only cancel the spell, but also revealed Pixie's true "giant orge" form. First to be killed by Gouryuujin.
- (24): A Dora Monster created by Tottpatt & Bukkbuck. The monster's main attack is a traffic light sticking out of his neck. He could make people compel to move(green) or freeze them in place(Red). He also had a number of weapons hidden in his shell provided by Bukkbuck. Killed by Tyrannosaurus and Dragon Caesar.
- (25): A Dora Monster held within a replica of a fairy statue made by a late nature lover. The strange butterflies that surround the statue sprinkle a poison on children. Goushi realized somthing was wrong and exposed the monster when realized he was right. Dora Tarantula spewed an acidic foam and thick webbing to shock his enemies. He could also shoot beams from his eyes and mandibles, and exploding stingers from his body. Killed by Gouryuujin.
- (26): A frog-like monster who could swallow people, either from a beam projected from his horn or his long tongue after losing his horn. He could also create a force field to reflect energy. Killed by Mei with the Ptera Arrow.
- (27): A plant demon who was too powerful for even Gouryuujin to fight. Mei was able to defeat it by repeating the same step her ancestor, Rishiya Princesss Yui, had done at the cost of her life. However while she lay down with a legendary lily to lure the monster, Mei was armed & managed to fatally wound the monster. Though it managed to defeat Gouryuujin, he was killed by the Howling Cannon.
- . He fought the Zyurangers while Bandora gathered the ingredients to summon Dai Satan. On Earth, Dai Satan infused Zombie Franke with some of his power, turning him into the lethal ''' Satan Franke'''. He overpowered Daizyujin and Dragon Caesar, forcing the Zyurangers to retreat. But upon unlocking the true power of the Shōgozyu, Daizyujin and Dragon Caesar combined for the first time into Zyutei Daizyujin and defeated Satan Franke.
- (32): A Plant Dora Monster said to have life-giving powers. He was used to make Geki hesitate to kill him due his hopes to keep Burai alive. Narcissis' weakness was in his own vanity, as he would stop to admire himself whenever he saw his reflection. Killed by Daizyujin.
- (33): A Dora Monster who possessed a blue-jewel of great power on her crown. Both this jewel and a red-one were sister fairy-princesses whom Bandora turn into gems. Only by the gems touching each other would the curse be lifted. Laygor was invincible until the owner of the red-jewel, Saori, slams her jewel into the blue-jewel and broke the curse. Rendered powerless, Laygor was quickly destroyed by the Howling Cannon.
- (35, 49-50): A Dora Monster sent to capture a special potion to give extended life. Armed with Ninja-like weapons including a sickle on a chain and katana sword. Killed by Daizyujin.
- (36): A stone Dora Monster that could shoot rocks out frmo his stomach to whoever they hit and weighed them down so they couldn't move. Killed by the Mirror of Havoc.
- (37): A Dora Monster armed with a large fan that he could use to blow people away, ''literally'', and a magic jar that could suck people inside. He also used a pole as a weapon, as well as a rake that is identical to the one used by Dora Goblin. Goldcorner could also use the spikes on the side of his headgear as expolding darts. Killed by Kyuukyouku Daizyujin.
- (38): This pet of Lamie's fed on children's souls. It managed to trap the Rangers (minus Mei) in a cocoon. It would later assume its full size when Mei interfered one time too many. It was then enlarged and killed by Zyutei Daizyujin.
- (40-42, 49-50): A Dora Monster that took on the forms of the Shougojuu. He could project energy beams from his eye. He first posed as Dragon Caesar to lure DragonRanger out of hiding. Though he retreated once the real Dragon Cesar appeared, Bandora succeeded in finding the location of the Lapless Room and destroyed it. Dora Fake was later launched to attack as Gouryuujin. The ZyuRangers used Kyuukyouku Daizyujin to finally destroy it seconds before Burai's time ran out.
- (43): A giant monster that revived into a strong form every time it dies, until Geki destroyed its heart. Killed by Kyuukyouku Daizyujin.
- (44, 49-50): An Dora Monster who could absorb people to use their talents as his own, even their special weapons. Among those he absorbed were an archer, a hockey player, and a swordswoman Goushi befriended. Chimera could shoot beams from the eyes of his lion head, and his goat head could create tornadoes and gusts of snow. He overpowered the other ZyuRangers, and was about to add them to his collection when Goushi arrived and assaulted Dora Chimera with extreme prejudice. Chimera was enlarged and then killed by Daizyujin.
- '''Dora boy named Kouichi, so that any attack inflicted on him is felt by Kouichi via the monster's horn. But Geki managed to destroy the horn, putting the monster at a disadvantage. Killed by Daizyujin while riding King Brachion.
- (46, 49-50): A mirror-covered monster who disguised himself and four Golems to look like the ZyuRangers and frame them. Killed by the Howling Cannon.

- Zyuranger included two actors who were in Jetman , Yuuta Mochizuki (J1/Geki) & Hideki Fujiwara (Dan/Dan), with Kazuo Takahashi (Tran/Kai) appearing in the last few episodes.
- After Zyuranger ended, Yuuta Mochizuki appeared in Sailor Moon Musicals ( Seramyu ) for 7 and a half years. He was the second longest running cast member to have performed in the musical, and is the longest running actor to have played four different characters (Kunzite, Mamoru Chiba/Tuxedo Kamen, King Endymion and Count Dracula ). He was also an action coach between 1998 and 2001.
- After Zyuranger, Yuuta Mochizuki played Kamen Rider J. He is a part of a handful of Sentai actors who went on to play a Kamen Rider after appearing in at least one Sentai series. He conciliates the filming of movie with his acting in Sailor Moon Musicals .
- Dragon Caesar is ZyuRanger's homeage to the King of Monsters, Godzilla .
- Bandora's name was a pun on '' Pandora ''
- Oddly enough, only three out of six Rangers actually have dinosaurs as avatars
- Lami has resemblances to Fiveman's Dordora as well as a closer look at her makes her like Jarmin in Turboranger. Turboranger may have been an inspiration for this series.
