King Tut's was set up in February 1990 by local promotions company DF Concerts, frustrated by the lack of a dedicated club-sized venue for up and coming rock bands to play in Glasgow. Despite poor sightlines (the stage can be seen only from one half of the area upstairs) the venue has gained an impressive reputation, attracting bands on the cusp of stardom and big names wanting to play in an intimate setting. Contrary to what its name might imply, King Tut's isn't a hut (it is comprised of two floors of a city-centre Georgian terraced building) and doesn't have any kind of Egypt ian theme. King Tut's is one of the sponsors of the T In The Park festival, and operates the King Tut's Tent there. NOTED ACTS
