Information About

King Edward Vii Stakes

The race was first run in 1834 as the Ascot Derby Stakes and was originally also open to three-year-old Fillies . In 1926 it was re-named in honour of King Edward VII and restricted to colts and geldings only.

It is still sometimes colloquially referred to as the 'Ascot Derby' and it is often contested by horses which ran two weeks earlier in the more prestigious Epsom Derby .
