and Play, Right.]]Kid 'N Play were a wholesome Hip-hop and Comedy duo from New York City that were most popular in the late 1980s and early 1990s . The duo is comprised of Christopher "Kid" Reid (born April 5 1964 in The Bronx, New York City ) and Christopher "Play" Martin (born July 10 1962 in Queens, New York City ), Besides their successful musical careers, Kid 'N Play are also notable for branching out into acting. They made several music-based Comedy Movies in the early 1990s, and even had their own NBC Saturday Morning Cartoon , ''Kid 'N Play'', from 1990 to 1991 . Fresh off their hit feature film House Party, hip-hop superstars Kid and Play became cartoon characters on NBC’s Kid ‘n’ Play. The R-rated comedy of the film was obviously toned down for the Saturday morning series, which played up the two rappers’ goofy comic personas. On the show, Kid ‘n’ Play were regressed to teens, but their recording careers remained intact. The two were managed by goofball Hurbie, and the rest of their entourage included Kid’s kid sister Terry and backup dancers Lela, Marika (Play’s sister), and Downtown Patty. The group’s arch rivals were a pair of jealous wannabes named Acorn and Pitbull, who showed their frustration by sabotaging Kid ‘n’ Play’s act. Naturally, the two stars gave as good as they got. The real Kid ‘n’ Play appeared in live-action wraparounds, but voice actors (including a relatively unknown Martin Lawrence ) took over for the animated segments. The show stressed positive role models, teaching kids how to get along and stay out of trouble. Unfortunately, Kid ‘n’ Play had the poor luck of airing opposite the megahit cartoons Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Beetlejuice . The show lasted only 13 original episodes before its live-action stars returned to more lucrative film careers. Play is a Black American . Kid is half- Black and half- White . Kid's trademark was his High-top Fade haircut, standing six inches high, which he cut during the filming of '' Class Act '' (the haircut is used as a plot device in the film). In addition to their music, Kid 'N Play starred together in four Movies , three of them entries in the popular '' House Party '' series. All of their films were based around Hip-hop characters and themes. They also appeard on the soundtrack albums to these films. Kid and Play amicably split during the mid-1990s. Kid continued acting, guest starring in a number of Television sitcoms, most notably '' Sister, Sister '', and hosting shows such as '' It's Showtime At The Apollo '' and ''Your Big Break''. Play became a Born-again Christian , and devoted his time to working on Christian -based hip-hop music projects. In an interview with halftimeonline.com (http://www.halftimeonline.com/play.htm) Play talks about how he took his vast industry experience and founded HP4Digital Works, a multimedia company that provides pre and post production for film, digital and live theater productions. Hip-hop and R&B recording artists IMx , who appeared in '' House Party 3 '' as Immature , starred in a direct-to-video sequel, ''House Party 4: Down to the Last Minute'', that was produced without Kid or Play.
