The shilling is the Currency of Kenya . Its ISO 4217 code is '''KES'''. The code '''Ksh''' is also often used. The Kenyan shilling replaced the East African Shilling in 1966 at par.

Earlier coins consist of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 cents. As the Kenyan shilling s the most stable and strongest currency in east africa, it's use outside the country mostly in places like Somalia and southern Sudan is favoured over the local currency.

Coins as of 2005 are 50 cents and 1 shilling in brass and bimetallic 5, 10 and 20 shillings. Banknotes issued are 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 shilling.
