Deuchar started his career in footballing at Falkirk , but two Leg Break s and other problems forced him to join East Fife . He led Fife to promotion, whilst working as a full time Doctor (he is even rumoured to have had to come on at half-time in some games because he was seeing a patient ), but he longed for full-time football. He was offered a place at big spending Scottish Football League Third Division Gretna, he signed immediately. In his first season he led Gretna to the Scottish Second Division smashing records along the way. He shattered the most goals in a season of 24 with an astounding 41, in only 40 appearances . Jeff Stelling , host of Sky Sports ' Soccer Saturday programme always makes reference to "The Good Doctor" having scored a goal whenever Deuchar's name appears on the vidiprinter. REFERENCES |
